Give Back to the Community

2025_email_givebacktothecommunity

Since 2008, the GCA’s Give Back to the Community campaign has supported local nonprofits and organizations through member-driven giving. This year, 2024 GCA President Michael Young and 2025 President Russell Inouye have selected the GCA Education Foundation — a nonprofit launched by our association in 1993 to strengthen workforce development in construction.

Originally formed to provide funding support for a UH College of Engineering professor and later to provide UH College of Engineering scholarships, the Foundation has expanded in 2025 to include a wider range of workforce development initiatives and support to address the labor shortage in our industry:

  • The updated BreakingGround 808 program that teaches DOE high school teachers about construction so that they can share their knowledge with their students
  • GCA Construction Management Graduate Program at Hawaii Pacific University
  • Supporting other workforce development on the islands, including Hawaii Construction Career Days
  • The GCA Education Foundation still provides University of Hawaii College of Engineering scholarships and funding for a College of Engineering professor position
