2021 Construction Risk Partners BUILD AMERICA AWARDS - Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company
3 Hawaii Construction Projects Recognized for Excellence in National Competitions
Three Hawaii companies were recognized for their excellence during the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) annual convention on Sept. 22 in Orlando, Florida.
Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc. and Sea Engineering, Inc., recently received 2021 Construction Risk Partners Build America Awards for their outstanding projects in a national competition. Nordic PCL Construction was recognized for their quality safety programs with a Willis Towers Watson Construction Safety Excellence Award.
The 35th annual Construction Risk Partners Build America Awards event recognized the nation’s most outstanding projects, equivalent to the Oscars for the construction industry. This year, there were 25 Construction Risk Partners Build America Award winners and 18 merit award winners in various categories, including buildings under $10 million to buildings over $126 million.
The General Contractors Association of Hawaii (GCA) is an affiliate of the national Associated General Contractors of America. The two companies that were recognized are members of the local GCA:
- Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company in Kamuela, Hawaii, received a Construction Risk Partners Build America Award in the $76 million to $125 million category for its work on the Mauna Lani – Auberge Resorts Collection. Hawaiian Dredging renovated and rejuvenated the property, and was able to maintain the resort’s culturally historic elements while remaining on schedule and within budget. This past April, Hawaiian Dredging also won four Build Hawaii Awards from the General Contractors Association of Hawaii for its work on Moanalua High School Performing Arts Center, Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plan, and Kapaa Stream Bridge and Opaekaa Bridge, both on Kauai.
- Sea Engineering received a Construction Risk Partners Build America Award in the federal and heavy renovation category for its work on the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial and floating dock. As a subcontractor on the repairs for the project, Sea Engineering was responsible for demolishing the existing visitor destination’s anchor system and installing a new deep foundation as well as a new flexible hawser mooring system.
This is the fourth consecutive year Construction Risk Partners has partnered with the Association of General Contractors to co-sponsor the Build America Awards. A panel of judges, representing all areas of construction evaluated the entries based on a project’s complexity, use of innovative construction techniques and client satisfaction, among other criteria.
Nordic PCL Construction, also a GCA member, was among the 44 companies nationwide selected as safety award winners by a panel of five independent safety professionals within the government, corporate and insurance industries. The companies were honored for developing and implementing safety and risk control programs that go beyond compliance requirements to continually improve safety at their worksites.
The award shows Nordic PCL has one of the safest worksites in the country, placing third in the Building Division for projects that required 350,000 to 850,000 work hours.
